Federico TosiGoodbye Bye Bye29 November 2018 - 23 March 2019 We are pleased to announce Federico Tosi’s first solo exhibition in our gallery. The exhibition backtracks through a narrative that lasts just a few moments, like a flash in the head of a young boy. All this happens in the cosmos, while the universe expands, galaxies float in a spiral, and white dwarfs collapse. Creatures that seem to come from another planet are transformed into fossils, while a gate made for crossing the universe falls into ruins. On a shelf we find fingers progressively devoured by a fungus, like frames in a time-lapse film. Moving forward in space, but backwards through the narrative, we encounter a large seashell made of olive wood, resting on the floor. It is the archetype of a seashell, its forms are geometric and pointed, simplified and accentuated: it is the perfect seashell. In the last room, we find the protagonist: a boy swimming under water, observing a seashell. The route in the gallery begins with four large drawings of Galaxies that engage with the space and expand its boundaries, creating a timeless place. The second room features Stargate, a sculpture of a portal, which was once used to reach any time or place at the speed of light, but now lies in ruin. The fossils, alien and earthly, are arranged in a strangely catalogued order, hung on the wall like war trophies. The bronze sculpture Like Ophiocordyceps unilateralis shows a fungus that attacks matter and transforms it completely. The wooden seashell is the center of the exhibition: an element that activates the imagination and is the link between us and the cosmos. It contains the information required to decode an era, an atmosphere and a planet. Its shape shows us the fractal growth of matter, as it appears everywhere in nature. Finally, Underwater is a minute sculpture in resin and wood of a boy underwater observing a seashell. His imagination is sparked in an instant, grows until it takes shape in his mind, and lasts only the time he can hold his breath. Then it vanishes and he returns to the surface, only a little bit older than before. Tosi’s research focuses on the infinite possibilities of matter and its transformation, using a refined and ferocious language aimed at investigating the most complex and dramatic aspects of existence. The artist hungrily probes into every dark cranny, creating fascinating and sometimes dangerous images. Federico Tosi was born in Milan in 1988 and graduated from the Brera Fine Arts Academy in 2014. His provocative, enigmatic works with unusual materials have caused a stir on more than one occasion: the carved cow bones on view at Almanac in Turin in 2017; the two cancer cells that tenderly hold hands, made in resin in 2014; the bird carcasses in multicolored resin (Rotten Bullshit, 2014-16); the jaws of a shark in marble (Make New Friends #3, 2012); and the bronze sculpture of a cat with barbed fur (Untitled, Cat).

Federico TosiGoodbye Bye Bye29 novembre 2018 - 23 marzo 2019 Siamo felici di annunciare la prima personale di Federico Tosi presso la nostra galleria. La mostra si sviluppa a ritroso, in una narrazione che dura pochi istanti, come un lampo nella testa di un ragazzino. Tutto questo accade nel cosmo, mentre l’universo si espande, le galassie fluttuano a spirale e le nane bianche collassano. Creature che sembrano provenire da un altro pianeta si trasformano in fossili, e un portale per attraversare l’universo cade immediatamente in rovina. Su una mensola troviamo delle dita progressivamente divorate da un fungo, come fotogrammi di un time-lapse. Muovendosi avanti nello spazio, ma a ritroso nella narrazione, ci si trova di fronte ad una grande conchiglia in legno di ulivo appoggiata sul pavimento. E’ l’archetipo di conchiglia, le forme sono geometriche e aguzze, semplificate e marcate: è la conchiglia perfetta. Nell’ultima stanza troviamo il protagonista: un ragazzino che nuota sott’acqua e osserva una conchiglia. Il percorso in galleria inizia con quattro grandi disegni di galassie, le quali fungono da contesto temporale e spaziale a tutto il racconto, dilatando i confini dello spazio. Nella seconda sala troveremo Stargate, una scultura “portale" per viaggiare nello spazio e nel tempo alla velocità della luce, che dovrebbe condurre ad altre dimensioni, ma è ormai ridotto in macerie. Seguono i fossili (Ariel), alieni e terrestri, disposti in uno strano ordine di catalogazione, appesi al muro come un bottino di guerra.La scultura in bronzo Like Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis mette in scena un fungo che aggredisce la materia e la trasforma completamente. La conchiglia in legno è il filo conduttore della mostra, l’elemento che attiva l’immaginazione e si frappone tra noi e il cosmo. Racchiude tutte le informazioni che servono a decodificare un’era, un’atmosfera e un pianeta. La sua conformazione ci mostra i caratteri dello sviluppo frattale della materia, profondamente presente in natura nella struttura delle piante o nel moto delle galassie. Infine Under Water, minuta scultura in resina, raffigura un ragazzino sott’acqua che osserva una conchiglia. L’immaginazione avviene in un istante, cresce fino a prendere forma nella testa e permane il tempo in cui trattieni il fiato, poi svanisce, torni a galla solo di poco più vecchio di prima. La ricerca di Tosi è da anni focalizzata sulle possibilità della materia e della resa plastica, utilizzando un linguaggio sofisticato e implacabile, teso ad indagare gli aspetti più complessi e drammatici dell’esistenza. L’artista osserva famelicamente ogni antro oscuro, creando immaginari affascinanti e pericolosi. Federico Tosi è nato a Milano nel 1988 e si è diplomato all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera nel 2014. I suoi lavori provocatori ed enigmatici, dai materiali inconsueti, hanno già fatto scalpore in diverse occasioni: le ossa bovine intagliate in mostra da Almanac a Torino nel 2017; le due cellule cancerogene che si tengono teneramente per mano realizzate in resina nel 2014; le carcasse di uccelli abbattuti in resina pluri-colorata (Rotten Bullshit 2014-16); le fauci di uno squalo in marmo (Make New Friends #3, 2012) e la scultura in bronzo di un gatto dal pelo aculeiforme (Untitled Cat, 2018).
